Fabiana Pasoni about herself...

I was born in Poços de Caldas; a small town in Brazil. I started singing when I was 6 years old. My daddy would sit on the couch, composing songs and I would sing along with him.

He taught me about interpretation and how to play to an audience. My first professional contract was singing at political rallies throughout my home state of Minas Gerais.

At 11, I was singing in nightclubs and at private parties. Through everyone’s eyes I was a huge success at so early an age. But I wasn’t happy. I didn’t like the kind of music I was singing. I was offered my first recording contract at 12. I turned it down.

People were surprised. People were angry. I took a break from performing. It’s important to me to connect to my audience; to make them feel better than when they came in; to leave an impression in their soul.

That’s not easy to do when you are only singing rock, axé, pagode and carnival. My main goal was to simply sing the kind of music I wanted to sing; and to compose!

So I left Brazil and moved to New York to sing bossa nova jazz fusion. Ella Fitzgerald and Leny Andrade influenced my style. Unfortunately, the gigs that paid were the ones for pop, rock and axé. I didn’t last very long doing that and I stopped singing again.

A few years passed by and I gave it another try. I was singing bossa nova; mostly at Brazilian BBQ houses and a few private parties. But I still had no confidence to write my own songs. I moved to California to get a fresh start.

Sitting on the beach one day, the lyrics for É Minha Vez popped into my head. From that day on things really took off. I charged ahead and this first CD is the result of this energy.

My style is a combination of jazz fusion with the older rhythms of Brazil like bossa nova, baião, and samba. Listen to the creative arrangements for Darlin’ (an old Beach Boys’ tune) and Mudar O Mundo (Change the World), the bossa nova in Escondido, the power of Canto de Ossanha, the smooth jazz of Tarde em Itapoã, and the samba in Samba do Soho.

My music is rich in brazilian percussion and creative horn and guitar solos further enhancing your listening experience. I want my lyrics and beat to reach out to you; and land in your hearts and souls. I hope you enjoy my music.

Dim The Lights(2013)

The title of Fabiana Passoni's first album in English "Dim The Lights" is a good indication of the softly toned atmosphere of the album which contains seven covers of legendary pop hits once made famous by Minnie Ripperton, Olivia, Newton-John, Lou Rawls, Michael Jackson, Rufus & Chaka Khan and The Carpenters.

Not only that her sensitive voice adapted beautifully to these songs, but supported by exquisite arrangements and musicians, she gives them a fresh sensuality infused by her native Brazilian personality, everything in perfect match with the emotional mood of the lyrics.

From the first track, her connection with the songs is clearly evident, the personal touch she puts in each of them, sounds so natural integrated with the original, that all these hits live a new melodic life going beyond the English lyrics. Her voice is so expressive painting feelings and moods, that anything she sings transcends the barrier of language.

"Lovin You" preserves the grace of the original song, a melodious "Magic" continues the Brazilian breeze in a higher register, followed by a lively jazzy orchestrated "You'll Never Find". "Lovely Day' is the most intimate song of the set showing a superb balance between voice and instruments. Surprisingly Michael Jackson's "Rock With You" becomes a joyful radiant bossa, while on "Ain't Nobody" the singer adds a soft dramatic inflection. Carpenters's hit "Close To You" ends this delightful album on an unforgettable magical note.

Naturalmente Brasil(2011)
(USA)

Brazilian singer and composer Fabiana Passoni is back with a new album she recorded after a 2 year successful battle with cancer. Her powerful, clear voice rises to new levels of emotion infused with the same warm, emotionally-charged tone we heard on her debut album.

"Naturalmente Brazil" is a genuine meaningful hymn to life performed by a singer whose vocal qualities are backed by an artistic sincerity that reaches to your heart from the first song.
She sings form the heart about hope, dreams, love, the everyday life without any artificiality, combining soft bossa-novas and velvet sambas with swing, electronics, flamenco and pop.

Sometimes the melodic line is nostalgic: "Life is too short to ignore the messages that come from beyond" but there is a sense of happiness and joy that emerges from sorrow in the quest for freedom ("I want to do what I want/I am tired of this life/I'll become a hippie.)
"Natural" is an explosion of rhythms and colors, a real hit among the other beautiful songs of the album, speaking about renewal and the nourishing water that refreshes our souls .

Top marks for the outstanding musicians who
complement perfectly her vocals playing a wide range of instruments from accordion and colorful percussions to strings, keyboards and horns.

“Naturalmente Brazil” offers a "natural" life's perspective, one that does not neglect difficult existential questions yet leaves the door open to the miracle of living.
