The mission of Giordano Dance Chicago is to create and present new and innovative jazz dance choreography, often redefining and expanding the very definition of jazz dance, and to bring this invaluable American art form to audiences and students of all ages and from all ethnic backgrounds. After more than two decades of work, a distinct and eclectic style that mixes groove, African roots, rhythm, improvisation, interplay with musicians, and deeply human soul, has distinguished DJD on the international jazz dance stage. Our founders and artists are progressive historians, innovating boldly while maintaining a respectful and loving eye on the roots of jazz.DJD often performs to live music and always presents riveting theatrical events. We have been inspiring our audience members with the urge to move since 1984 with two original productions each season.Beyond our season of performances and touring, DJD’s experts offer classes in jazz and related forms at The School of Decidedly Jazz, and extended awareness through outreach activities locally, nationally and internationally. Our artists have shared our unique vision across Canada, in the United States including at The School at Jacob’s Pillow, in Europe, Africa and the Caribbean.

JazzAntiqua Dance & Music Ensemble

JazzAntiqua is an award-winning, Los Angeles-based performance ensemble, that celebrates jazz as a vital thread in the cultural fabric of African American history and heritage, and a defining element of the American experience.

Founded in 1993 by choreographer Pat Taylor with jazz musician and composer Marcus Shelby, the 14-member ensemble presents a signature style of jazz theatre — a blend of music, dance, text and song, shaped by a distinctive historical perspective.

Exploring original compositions along with the works of Duke Ellington, Miles Davis, John Coltrane and other greats, JazzAntiqua delves deep into the heart of jazz and the stories within the music. From jazz clubs to concert halls, performing arts centers to schools, museums to festivals in the park — JazzAntiqua shares the art of jazz with audiences of all ages and backgrounds.

NY CityWriters have labelled Luigi, An Ambassador of Jazz, A Pioneer, The Pied Piper, A Body Doctor but mostly, The Innovator. Dance historians have defined his style as classic jazz, sophisticated, elegant, and even liquid fire. The exercise routine he created for his own rehabilitation after a devastating accident became the world’s first complete technique for learning jazz dance. Luigi’s talents and perseverance have given him the opportunity to work in every part of show business, from burlesque to Hollywood musicals, Broadway and beyond. He received the professional nickname “Luigi” from Gene Kelly.
